All systems go

Cessnock City Council in New South Wales is delivering more efficient customer service thanks to the implementation of a new point of sale (POS) system.

The new Commonwealth Bank Albert EFTPOS terminals allow for on-the-spot payments with inbuilt 3G/Wi-Fi capability.

Council’s business units previously ran their retail operations their own ways, with a variety of different software and hardware in place.
The new system has been piloted in Council’s Administration Centre and Cessnock Performing Arts Centre, with a view to extend to all Council sites including pools and libraries in the near future.

Council’s General Manager Stephen Glen said staff and customers are noticing a big improvement with new payment technology allowing for quick and simple transactions.

“With the current focus on cost savings across Council, it was important for our business units to take a coordinated approach to the review, selection and implantation of a standard corporate retail point of sale system,” Mr Glen said.

“The new terminals are easy to use, resulting in reduced ongoing maintenance and training costs whilst improving internal efficiencies.”

The new system meets individual business needs at Council and is planned to interface with core programs such as Authority and TRIM.
The Albert terminals also provide Council the ability to add new functionality in the future such as options for new income streams, the potential to lease terminals for use on weekends at events or expos and to offer e-receipting.

“We haven’t gone down this path yet, but it is definitely something we will consider given the amount of large-scale events in our backyard here in Hunter Valley Wine Country,” Mr Glen said.
