Easy being green

Isaac Regional Council in Queensland is using efficient irrigation to keep turf green with recycled water in Moranbah.

Chief Executive Officer Rod Ferguson said the recycled water system is better than ever with the completion of a $600,000 upgrade.
“The new master controller system and solar-powered sub-controllers means Council can better control its effluent water throughout the town.

“Project contractor Dowdens installed a new irrigation system at the Athletics Field at the Eastern Sports Grounds.

“The Council project also saw the replacement of the irrigation network in the majority of the Mills Avenue medians, and an upgrade to irrigation infrastructure in a number of other Moranbah parks.
“The outcome is better use of our recycled water, greener parks and more attractive public spaces.

“The upgraded system is fully automated, gaining efficiencies by watering at night and produces a daily electronic report.”

Mr Ferguson said Council irrigation systems had been significantly damaged by motorists parking on median strips.

“Council will be erecting ‘no parking’ signs to prevent future damage to our infrastructure and turf.

“Motorists should be aware parking on medians causes thousands of dollars in damage to irrigation infrastructure, tears up turf, and leaves the turf to go brown.”
