Gympie Regional Council in Queensland recognises the importance of keeping its councillors and staff knowledgeable about their expansive local government area.
The Mayor, councillors and senior staff explored the Gympie region recently, to inspect infrastructure, community facilities and the individual towns that make up the region.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor, Mick Curran, said gaining on-the-ground perspectives of different aspects of the local government area is invaluable for council members.
“As the saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words and this tour helps both Councillors and staff to better understand the issues and opportunities the many individual sites and villages in the Gympie region are presented with.
“Matching the places and infrastructure with the many reports and requests that we will receive in our terms will really help all of us to deliver great results for the community.”
Travelling together, the group visited several areas in the region including Kilkivan, Curra, Gunalda and Woolooga.
The Goomeri Lions group provided a well-received lunch at Goomeri Hall where their president and former Kilkivan Shire Councillor, Margaret Angel, gave some great advice to the new Council.
“I’m really impressed with the passion shown by the Councillors towards gaining knowledge about all aspects of such a large region as ours,” said Mayor Curran.
“It’s evident that the Councillors are thinking ahead towards the future and are already working towards our vision of the Gympie region being the natural choice to live, work and play.”
