Almost half a million children across Australia have taken their seats at local libraries and schools to begin a nationwide reading of the picture-book ‘I Got This Hat’.
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held every year to encourage young children to enjoy reading. This year’s event kicked off today at 11am.
This year’s selected book ‘I Got This Hat’ is written by Jol and Kate Temple and illustrated by Jon Foye.
Councils across Australia are promoting the event; some local councillors are even hosting the readings.
In Queensland, Whitsunday Regional Council Councillor Ron Petterson said his council is proud to participate in the event to promote youth literacy.
“We are fortunate to welcome a special guest to each of the regional libraries to read the chosen book for this year’s NSS titled I Got This Hat,” said Cr Petterson.
“This is a great opportunity to take part in a special community event that promotes the fun and benefits of reading to our children.”
