Redland City Mayor Karen Williams yesterday issued a strong message to Canberra on behalf of the people of South East Queensland – it’s time to get SEQ moving again.
Speaking from Canberra ahead of the Federal election Mayor Williams delivered the message as part of the South East Queensland Council of Mayors’ #GetSEQMoving campaign, a final push to secure vital road and public transport infrastructure for the region in the lead up to the Federal election.
“Better road and rail connections are essential to get the Redlands moving again. As part of the Get SEQ Moving campaign, we’re asking our Federal leaders to address some of the long standing infrastructure needs of this region.
“We’re pushing for key infrastructure priorities like the Eastern Busway and the duplication of the Cleveland rail line. Now is the time for our Federal candidates to demonstrate their commitment to supporting our economy and communities.
“The SEQ Mayors are committed to working together to push for the road and rail infrastructure needed to support the growing needs of our cities, and the region as a whole.
As part of the #GetSEQMoving campaign, Mayor Williams also highlighted the need for better access roads to the Gateway and Port of Brisbane as a key issue for the Redlands in the lead up to this Federal election.
The #GetSEQMoving campaign will continue until 2 July, and demand a firm commitment from the major political parties to address SEQ’s lagging infrastructure.
Other regional priorities featured in the campaign include addressing the traffic gridlock on the Ipswich and Pacific motorways, North Coast Rail Line duplication, and prioritisation of the SEQ section of the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail project.
