Former councillors continue to represent

At its Council meeting on 25 July City of Parramatta confirmed the makeup of its Local Representation Advisory Committee (LRAC) and Former Councillor Representation Committee (FCRC) after the membership of both panels was finalised by Council’s Administrator, Amanda Chadwick.

The LRAC has been formed to provide input to City of Parramatta on a range of issues associated with the transition to the new Local Government boundaries and provide the community with another avenue to have its say on Council matters.

The committee will include nine community members, six former councillors from the former Parramatta City Council, and one current councillor from The Hills Shire council.

“We received a great response to our call for expressions of interest for the LRAC and I believe the community membership strikes an important balance. The members come from across the new Parramatta local government area and bring diverse experiences to the committee. I’m sure they will do a great job serving the interests of their local communities and the City of Parramatta,” Ms Chadwick said.

“Together our LRAC members have a wealth of knowledge about all of the areas and communities now comprising the new City of Parramatta Council, formed when the State Government issued its amalgamation Proclamation on 12 May.

“They bring with them a range of experiences from the corporate world and community advocacy and are well-placed to provide valuable input to Council during the transition period.”

Ten of the twelve eligible former Parramatta City Councillors applied and will be part of the new Former Councillor Representation Committee (FCRC).

Five other serving Councillors from the Hills and Hornsby Shire Councils who represent areas now included in City of Parramatta have been notified of their entitlement to apply to be part of the Committee. A similar invitation will be extended to relevant councillors of the former Auburn Council if appropriate, once the current Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) process involving that council is completed.

“The Former Councillor Representation Committee will be an inclusive group that will receive briefings on the major activities of Council and will assist with engaging local communities. The panel provides an opportunity for its members to continue serving their communities until the next Local Government elections are held in September 2017. It will ensure that City of Parramatta continues to benefit from their experience and knowledge during the transition period.”
