Strengthening regional links

From Monday, daily flights will take off between regional New South Wales centres, Newcastle and Dubbo.

FlyPelican will operate two daily return services – one early in the morning and another late in the afternoon.

As well as assisting inland residents to easily reach the coast, the 55-minute flights will help miners reach remote work sites.

“The introduction of daily flights will give Dubbo residents a faster way to get to Newcastle to visit our stunning beaches, art galleries and restaurants and spare many workers across the health, agriculture and hospitality sectors the four-hour drive between Newcastle and Dubbo,” said Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes.

Western Plains Regional Council Administrator Michael Kneipp said the new flight path showed the strength of the Dubbo regional economy.

“Travellers from Newcastle can now more readily look for business opportunities with Dubbo, which is thriving in building, construction and agricultural services,” he said.

“Visitors can also experience some of the region’s great attractions such as the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Old Dubbo Gaol and the Wellington Caves.”
