The national charge

A national program that supports elder residents in electric wheelchairs is calling on local governments to get involved.

Scooters and wheelchairs are an essential aid for many people with a disability to participate in community life. For some, it’s their primary means of transportation.

The RECHARGE Scheme Australia Ltd. (RSA) charity supports local councils to provide a more accessible environment for people who use electric mobility wheelchairs and scooters.

The program promotes initiatives such as introducing designated power points for people to recharge their scooter or wheelchair battery.

Customers using the RECHARGE Scheme™ report that they feel increased safety, social connection and improved well being – they no longer isolate themselves through fear they will be stranded by a flat battery.

The scheme commenced in Victoria in 2006 and is now expanding nationally – there is already over 700 registered recharge locations.
Key businesses and organisations proudly bear the RECHARGE Scheme™ logo at their premises as program partners.

Councils looking to become affiliates of the scheme will be provided with necessary materials and guidance to implement the scheme; this includes: a start up kit; access to a national web platform; sticker sets and customised materials; risk management protocols; and insurance.

Councils who register their interest prior to 31 July qualify for an introductory membership discount. To register your council’s interest visit: www.rechargescheme.org.au/council_contact/registration
