The Town of Victoria Park is partnering with two local organisations to provide employment, training and education opportunities for local young people, many of them Indigenous.
The Western Australian council is partnering with AFL SportsReady, and Clontarf Foundation.
AFL SportsReady is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping young Australians develop careers through traineeships and educational opportunities.
Dean Cooper, an 18-year-old AFL enthusiast who recently graduated from Sevenoaks Senior College, is the first to benefit from this partnership having joined the Town a few weeks ago as a horticultural trainee.
Over the next 18 months, Dean will study at TAFE and work across a variety of divisions within the Park Life team to learn a diverse range of skills through practical experience and eventually graduate with a Certificate III in Horticulture.
The Town works closely with Clontarf Foundation to provide opportunities for Indigenous youth to seek employment and education, empowering them to actively participate within their community.
Both AFL SportsReady and Clontarf Foundation are located in the Town and combined they have supported over 16,000 young people begin their journey by providing education, discipline, life skills and employment prospects.
“This is a fantastic three-way partnership, one that I am particularly proud of and grateful to have the opportunity to support.
“The personal outcomes for the individuals participating in the program are expected to be really positive, but it’s also a win-win for our community,” said Mayor Trevor Vaughan.
