Connecting to country

Blue Mountains City Council’s Connecting to Country program enables traditional owners to connect with Country within the Blue Mountains local government area.

The Connecting to Country program has a focus on engaging with Traditional Owners, the Darug and Gundungurra peoples, and other Aboriginal communities, in the management of Country and fostering cultural continuation on Country.

Recently, the Connecting to Country program supported the ‘Darug Visiting Country’ event, through which members of the Darug community visited and reconnected with some of their Country and with each other.

The program supports the continual relationship and connection with Country, and traditional forms of cultural knowledge sharing, which will contribute to the social health, wellbeing, spirituality, cultural life and economy of Aboriginal people in the Blue Mountains. The program also strengthens the relationships between Traditional Owner groups, the Aboriginal community and Council.

The Connecting to Country program is part of Council’s environment & culture program and is funded by the special rate variation.
