Moira Shire Council in northern Victoria is offering free tourism training for those seeking work – including placement at its Visitor Information Centres.
Working in collaboration with the Wodonga TAFE, the Council is offering a Certificate III in Tourism, beginning in August.
Moira Shire Mayor Gary Cleveland said the training opportunity was aimed at people seeking a career or already working in the local tourism sector, and with support from the Victorian Government’s Back to Work initiative, the course is fee-free for eligible unemployed or under employed applicants.
“This is a unique opportunity for Moira Shire residents to kick-start a career in tourism with a professional tourism qualification, delivered in the Shire.”
The course will cover tourism industry knowledge, customer service, workplace safety, finance, sales and marketing, product and information technology and offers familiarisation tours and workplace experience.
“This training opportunity will develop job-ready talent and will include developing participants’ job-seeking and resume writing skills and provide work experience in our visitor information centres.”
The course will commence in Cobram in August and will run for a period of eight weeks.
Training will be delivered through a combination of class time, industry excursions and work placement.
