Federation Council in New South Wales is directing an unprecedented level of funding towards community spaces and playgrounds.
Local families and visitors will benefit from a number of initiatives across the council area that are designed to improve access to recreational facilities and create inclusive and welcoming community spaces.
Federation Council recently launched the ‘Play Space Upgrade Program’, which includes nine projects across the council area.
Federation Council Administrator Mike Eden said the Play Space Upgrade Program is a key priority for council, with a number of projects expected to be completed by the end of the year.
“These are projects that residents have been asking for or working towards themselves for a long time,” Mr Eden said.
“The Stronger Communities Funding has provided a once off opportunity for an injection of funds into community infrastructure, but many of the projects are also being made possible thanks to community fundraising, business support and long term savings from council.
“In addition to providing activities for local families and young people to enjoy, the new and redeveloped play spaces are expected to drive visitation and promote the area as a family friendly destination,” Mr Eden said.
“We are continually building on what the region has to offer and hope to see this reflected in the long term growth and sustainability of the Federation Council area.”
The playground at RSL Park in Corowa will be one of the first projects completed, along with a new playground at Memorial Park in Howlong.
Design of the Corowa Skatepark redevelopment has been finalised and consultation has just been completed with young people in Howlong about the concept plans for the street terrain style skate park to be constructed at Lowe Square.
