Bunjil Place gets the leading edge*

The City of Casey in Melbourne’s outer southeast celebrated the opening of its new state-of-the-art entertainment and civic centre in late-October.

‘Bunjil Place’ is aptly named after the eagle creator spirit of the Boon Wurrung, Bunurong and Wurundjeri First Nation’s people and the $125 million project incorporates council offices, an 800-seat theatre, a library, gallery, function centre, amphitheatre and vibrant community plaza.

Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said after many years of planning and construction, the council was excited to welcome visitors to the precinct.

“Not only will Bunjil Place be the new home for the City of Casey, it’s set to become the destination of choice for entertainment, culture and connection, not only for our city but within the entire southeast region of Melbourne.”

The Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp architectural design features the breathtaking curves of a soaring eagle while the project hard landscaping by Baron Forge Landscaping realised the impressive outdoor spaces.

Maintaining graceful curves at ground level FormBoss steel garden edging was installed throughout Bunjil Place by NewGrow horticultural contractors. Systems Manager Kenan Huric said the product was an obvious choice: “FormBoss is always our preferred product for steel edging as its quality is high, lead time is short and installation is as easy as it gets – leaving us with a well-priced, good-looking finish.”

Throughout the installation – which took approximately three days – 320m of galvanised FormBoss were used.

Mr Huric said the main reason for using FormBoss was, “in this case, we had to meet deadlines within a budget and supply a versatile quality product.”

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured, FormBoss allows you to create clean, uninterrupted lines in your garden – from straight lines, to sweeping curves – which certainly came in handy for the City of Casey.

Mayor Aziz invited all community members to visit and enjoy the versatile space: “You might like to celebrate at one of our vibrant outdoor events in the community plaza, enjoy live performances in the 800-seat theatre or studio space, explore new and colourful exhibitions in the gallery or take some time out in the modern library.”

The City of Casey anticipates about 1 million visitors each year to Bunjil Place.
