The City of Mandurah in Western Australia has taken out top honours in this year’s GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards, announced in September.
Award winners were presented at the 2017 WA Regional Tourism Conference Dinner in Albany.
Mandurah competed against Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Albany for the top spot in the category for towns/cities with a population over 5000.
Mayor Marina Vergone said she was delighted that Mandurah has been recognised amongst the best towns and cities in Western Australia for its enticing attractions and facilities.
“We are so excited and proud that Mandurah was a winner in the Top Tourism Town Awards this year,” Mayor Vergone said.
“This just proves what we already know about Mandurah, it’s such a special place to live and visit.
“Mandurah has such a great variety of attractions, natural assets, facilities and community spirit that really make us stand out from our competitor towns and cities.”
Mandurah and Peel Tourism Organisation (MAPTO) Chief Executive Officer Karen Priest said the recognition had come at just the right time.
“Mandurah has truly come of age and we would encourage everyone who hasn’t been here for a while and seen the changes here to re-visit the city and stay on and explore the rest of the Peel region,” Ms Priest said.
“The Top Tourism Town competition was significant this year as Mandurah was a finalist against Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Albany, however as the recent Tourism Research Australia statistics reflected Mandurah is the number one day trip destination in Western Australia, and new tourism and hospitality products in our destination has helped take us to where we are now.”
The awards are run by Visitor Centres WA and sponsored by long-term supporters GWN7 and Vanguard Press.
