Penrith Council has joined with other stakeholders to announce plans for The Quarter, a new health and education precinct that promises to deliver 6000 jobs.
Mayor of Penrith, Councillor John Thain along with the Hon Peter Collins MP and Greg Allchin, Chair of the Penrith Health and Education Precinct Leadership Committee, launched plans for The Quarter: a new world-class precinct that will create 6000 additional jobs and attract world class medical researchers, educators and innovators to the region.
The Quarter benefits from current collaboration between health services and education providers within the precinct. Spanning 300 hectares between Penrith and St Marys, The Quarter will actively connect tertiary institutions, research facilities and hospitals to collaborate and accelerate the implementation of cutting edge technologies in patient care and treatment.
Penrith Council has joined with stakeholders to develop The Quarter Strategic Action Plan. The plan provides a formal strategy for strengthening and creating partnerships between medical and educational facilities within the precinct.
Mayor of Penrith John Thain said, “What makes this precinct so exciting is its integrated approach to healthcare and education.
“The Quarter will attract the world’s best minds to fast-track ground breaking research and cutting edge technology into patient care.
“This ‘bench to bedside’ approach will have enormous benefits for the community allowing residents to access world class healthcare and education right here in Penrith.”
The Quarter will attract record levels of infrastructure and investment to the region, leveraging off the new international airport and major road upgrades, along with significant spending on major hospitals like Nepean.
“With the arrival of Sydney’s second airport just 11kms from the Penrith City Centre, along with the development of the Sydney Science Park at Luddenham, The Quarter will be a centre for innovation and world class healthcare… there’s never been a better time to live in Penrith,” Mayor Thain said.
