Quality tourism services recognised

The District Council of Yankalilla has proven its Visitor Information Centre is one of the best in the state after winning a prize at the SA Tourism Awards for the second consecutive year.

The Yankalilla Bay Visitor Information Centre (VIC) scooped up the Silver at the awards ceremony in November.

Council’s Chief Executive Nigel Morris said the award is a testament to the centre’s staff that consistently provides top quality face-to-face service to visitors from far and wide.

“We are delighted to have been awarded Silver at the SA Tourism Awards,” said Natasha Hunt, Yankalilla Visitor Information Centre’s Coordinator.

“We are extremely proud of the fine quality tourism experiences we have on offer in the Fleurieu, and as an industry that is so vital to not just the local economy but to South Australia, we are thrilled to have been recognised in such a way.

“This recognises the consistent delivery of high quality and face-to-face information services that our visitors receive when they come to our district.”

Over the 2016/17 year, visitor numbers increased in the area by 13 per cent. Total online bookings rose by 59 per cent in the qualifying period.

Other highlights included: the roll out of the Fleurieu Coast Free Bike scheme and an affiliate partnership being set up with booking.com – making the Yankalilla VIC the first VIC in South Australia to become an affiliate partner.

The SA Tourism Awards recognise the best experiences and operators in South Australia, with the VIC winning in the Visitor Information Services category.

Clare Valley Wine, Food & Tourism Centre took home the Gold award and Tourism Kangaroo Island was awarded the Bronze.
