Football club partnership gets residents active

Melton City Council in Victoria has teamed up with the Western Bulldogs Football Club to deliver a successful health and wellbeing program for young women.

Daughters of the West is a free health program for all women aged 18 and over, living, working and recreating in Victoria’s west.
Council partnered with the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation to present the pilot health and wellbeing program throughout October and November and more than 70 women graduated.

The eight-week pilot program was designed to give women the tools to lead healthy, happy lives.

Throughout the eight weeks, participants met a range of experts who interactively discussed topics related to physical and mental wellbeing.

Along with the wealth of information provided each week, participants had the opportunity to put their runners on, get active, and have some fun.

Qualified professionals were on hand to ensure support was available for women of all fitness levels.

City of Melton Mayor Bob Turner said the Daughters of the West program was an invaluable experience for many participants.

“The program was a great way for women to learn ways to improve their health, meet other women in the community and have some fun and a few laughs at the same time,” Mayor Turner said.

“Daughters of the West is not just for fitness fanatics, and sports stars; it’s for all women to come together to learn tips and tricks to leading a healthier and more active lifestyle.”
