Lake Macquarie City Council in New South Wales is implementing new digital systems to improve core services and operations.

The Council has elected to partner with Civica to implement the Authority 7 system, which is an enterprise IT solution for core services including finance, asset management, customer relationship management and land information systems, and will work with Cornerstone to deliver human resources (HR) system solutions.

These new systems will create a platform for mobile technology to be utilised widely in providing work orders to teams, reporting information back from inspections and other key council functions.
The new technology will also enhance the options available for interfacing with customers via a Customer Portal.

Council’s Manager Civil Works department – CiviLake, Peter Murray, said many benefits are set to result from the new systems.

“People, who have traditionally used paper to receive their work or do their timesheets, will be able to do it on iPads in the field.

“So they will spend less time doing the things that don’t improve services for the community, and more time doing the things that do.”
Projects and Technical Officer Community Assets, Wil Martindale, said the new system would involve a centralised database of assets, linked to the council’s financial system.

“We will be able to create work orders against assets and manage the asset portfolio more effectively to provide high quality services to our residents.”

The first new system for Lake Mac Libraries, Spydus, will rollout in the first quarter of 2018, and will provide a whole new range of features for library customers.

The remaining systems will rollout progressively throughout 2018 and 2019.
