City of Charles Sturt, South Australia, has officially opened Point Malcolm Reserve a newly reinvented $1.2 million recreation destination in Semaphore Park.
Mayor Angela Evans said Charles Sturt’s Open Space Strategy provides a strategic framework for the improvement of open space across the City, focusing on reinventing spaces to provide quality active living.
“We are focused on reinventing our reserves as part of our commitment in building for tomorrow.
“Working with residents, we successfully generated a shared vision for the reserve. The consultation received positive feedback and a high level of engagement from our community, and we used this feedback to help shape the master plan.
“The State Government contributed $200,000 towards this project and I thank them for sharing our vision for this space.”
Following the opening of Point Malcolm, the City continues to invest in community infrastructure, with the $1.5 million reinvention of MJ McInerney Reserve, as well as upgrading many other play and recreation spaces.
This reflects their strong and focused commitment to providing quality open spaces, the opportunity to turn facilities into regional assets that attract visitors and locals alike, and reflects their desire to encourage active, healthy and connected lifestyles in a safe and genuine community environment.
