Queensland’s Isaac Regional Council libraries will this month join other libraries from around the country and across the Tasman to host National Simultaneous Storytime.
Children from Dysart, Clermont, Glenden, Middlemount, Nebo, Moranbah and St Lawrence will join many across Australia and New Zealand for a picture book giggle-fest.
Hickory Dickory Dash will bring together thousands of children across the country for this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime.
Mayor Anne Baker said the region is excited to be part of this national occasion.
“It’s such a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes.
“It also addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.”
Organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), the event is celebrating its 18th year with Hickory Dickory Dash published by Scholastic Australia.
Tony Wilson and Laura Wood’s The Cow Tripped Over the Moon was chosen for the 2017 event, which was the largest to date with 686,324 people taking part.
This year ALIA will welcome their New Zealand colleagues to join in the story time fun.
The event organisers are calling for assistance to set a new record aiming for one million participants.
