In a proactive step in disaster resilience, Fraser Coast Regional Council, Queensland, has created an online Disaster Dashboard as a reliable source of information for when disasters strike.
Disaster Management Councillor, Rolf Light said the new Disaster Dashboard would provide people and agencies with a ‘One Stop Shop’ of information during severe weather events.
“The days of looking for multiple websites about weather information, public warning messages, road closures, maps and social media feeds are over, with the Disaster Dashboard centralising it in one easy display.”
The Disaster Dashboard at disaster.frasercoast.qld.gov.au was developed by Council’s Disaster Management Team and software developer Guardian QIT Plus. It was funded by the State Government’s ‘Get Ready’ Queensland initiative that promotes resilient communities.
Cr Light said the new Disaster Dashboard was aimed at encouraging people to get all the relevant information they need quickly to make informed decisions.
“During severe weather events, Council’s phone lines can often become congested quickly so the earlier people get the information they need, the better chances they have to avoid potentially dangerous situations.”
