Training for the World Cup

Southern Downs Regional Council has joined forces with TAFE Queensland to launch Be Our Guest, a new training program aimed at getting Warwick and the Southern Downs business community ready in the lead up to Polocrosse World Cup 2019.

Polocrosse World Cup will bring players from eight countries to Warwick and more than 60,000 people to the region, with over 300 people involved in hosting the event.

Outside of the Gold Coast in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, SDRC is the only region to facilitate this TAFE Queensland program, which prepares its business community to enhance the visitor experience and excel on the international stage.

TAFE Queensland brings considerable experience after partnering GOLDOC as the Official Training Partner of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, training the 15,000 volunteer workforce who successfully brought the Games to life.

The training program aims to raise customer service levels and develop the capability of the local community and businesses with a bespoke, targeted suite of training and up-skilling across marketing, retail, hospitality, business management and volunteering.

Council is encouraging local business to take part in the program to ensure the region capitalises on the tourism benefits of hosting the World Cup and to showcase the very best of what the Southern Downs has to offer.

Councillor for Regional Promotion, Tourism and the Arts, Rod Kelly, said the World Cup is a unique opportunity for the region to sell itself on the world stage.

“Hosting the World Cup gives us access to international audiences, it’s an opportunity to be a part of a global event and experience.
“We have a lot of talent on the Southern Downs and it is important to ensure that the community is well prepared to show the region off as a premier event destination.”
