Knox City Council, Victoria, is doing its part for a more sustainable future, adding three electric cars to its fleet and installing two electric vehicle charging stations at the Civic Centre in Wantirna South.
The charge points are available for the community to use for free, and will also be used to power Council’s new all-electric fleet vehicles.
Council recently updated three of its fleet vehicles with all-electric vehicles, with the goal of moving to a more sustainable future as electric vehicles become more available and more affordable.
Council has already received the first vehicle, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric, and plans to order two Nissan Leaf cars when released in Australia mid-year.
Mayor, Jake Keogh, said Council is committed to reducing greenhouse emissions and this is just one initiative towards that goal.
“There is, rightly, an expectation in the community that government should lead the way in the area of sustainability and improved environmental outcomes.
“One of the ways we can do that is by providing services and infrastructure that open up more choices for residents who are looking for cleaner and more environmentally sustainable options, including the use of electric vehicles.”
The Hyundai Ioniq Electric can plug into a 10amp electric power point, as well as the Type 2 charge point.
