Electric vehicle owners benefit

Convenient and economical charging stations make electric vehicles a more viable alternative.

Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra councils, New South Wales (NSW), have joined together to provide convenient, public, on-street electric vehicle charging stations for locals and visitors.

Electric vehicle owners are now be able to charge on the go at Bondi Beach, Double Bay, Coogee Beach and Randwick.

It comes after the three councils signed a joint agreement last year with electric vehicle charging provider JETCharge to install the stations.

The project is internally funded by Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra’s Tri-Council Environment Program.

Randwick Mayor, Kathy Neilson, said the Tri-council project would help reduce carbon emissions from transport in Sydney’s east and encourage electric vehicle uptake.

“This project is an example of our shared determination and efforts to enact change at a local government level to help the environment for future generations.”

Waverley Mayor, John Wakefield, said the Tri-councils are proud to be pioneers in the electric vehicle sphere in Sydney and NSW.

“There’s a transformation in motoring in Australia and around the world and the move to electric vehicles starts here in Waverley and surrounds.”

Woollahra Mayor, Peter Cavanagh, said the charging stations had been installed in convenient locations where residents and visitors do business, run errands and socialise.

“We want purchasing an electric vehicle to be a more viable option for people, and our councils are leading the way by providing handy charging locations.”

Charging stations are booked and paid for using Chargefox app. Charging costs between 10-25 c/kWh, depending on the time of the day, and is designed to be less than the cost of charging at home.
