Upgrade works have commenced on a selection of rural road floodways as part of Maranoa Council’s Regional Floodway Program funded by Works for Queensland.
Chair for Rural Roads, Councillor Janelle Stanford, said Council was appreciative of the funding that would assist with the upgrade to rural roads.
“The program will improve safety on rural roads, reduce ongoing maintenance and will increase the resilience of our road network during seasonal rain events.”
Concrete inverts, signage, guideposts and depth markers will be installed at each site.
Minister for Local Government Stirling Hinchliffe applauded Council for commencing the works.
“These are the kind of projects the Works for Queensland program is designed to deliver, having a positive impact on communities right across regional Queensland.
“I congratulate Maranoa Regional Council for improving safety through these upgrades, which show what can be achieved when our two levels of government work together.”
The program will see floodway improvements on a selection of rural roads across the Maranoa in the coming months.
Works are expected to cost approximately $585,000, support eight full time jobs during construction and are scheduled for completion at the end of June 2019.
