Gannawarra Shire Council, Victoria, has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to extend the Commonwealth Home Support Program until 30 June 2022.
The program provides services to more than 580 Gannawarra Shire residents over the age of 65 each year.
Mayor, Lorraine Learmonth, said that the Commonwealth Home Support Program enabled Council to assist residents to remain living safely and independently in their own homes.
“Services offered by Council’s Community Care staff include domestic care, personal care, meal delivery and property maintenance, just to name a few.
“These services mean that our older residents can be supported to continue to enjoy living in their own homes in the community.”
More than 24,000 hours of care were provided during the current financial year.
“The Commonwealth Home Support Program and other services that Council provides – such as Social Meals, Gannawarra Non-Emergency Transport Service and being an approved National Disability Insurance Scheme provider – play a key role in keeping residents in touch with the community,” Mayor Learmonth said.
