Community says it’s a top place to live

The 2019 biennial MARKYT Community Scorecard survey has shown the Town of East Fremantle, Western Australia, to again be one of the highest performing local governments as a ‘place to live’ and as a ‘governing organisation’.

The Town achieved a score of 78 out of 100, making it the second highest performing council out of 60 metropolitan and regional local governments that participated in the MARKYT survey.

Mayor, Jim O’Neill, said since the last survey in 2017 the Town’s staff had focused strongly on delivering improved customer service levels, resulting in 39 performance measure improvements in the survey results.

“The Town’s biggest improvers have been footpaths and cycleways, traffic management, our Facebook page and safety and security.

“Importantly the survey results have highlighted areas that the community would like the Town to improve in. For instance, many would like to see a greater commitment to protecting, planning and maintaining our street trees to enhance the look of our streetscapes.

“The survey results have proven to be a very handy tool in assisting us to measure our success against the strategies identified in our Strategic Community Plan.”

In the year ahead, $3.8 million dollars will be spent on infrastructure improvement projects and capital projects, including nearly $1.23 million on Riverside Road; over $400,000 on carpark improvements and infrastructure; over $450,000 on community building upgrades; $238,000 foreshore management initiatives and over $150,000 to improve Chapman Reserve/Henry Jeffery Oval.
