Some of Port Fairy’s youngest residents got to take their new wheels for a spin, when they had their first excursion outside of the childcare facilities at Port Fairy Community Services Centre, Victoria.
Travelling by two new six-seater prams, eight two and three year olds met a group of Moyneyana residents at the library for a morning of singing, dancing and book reading.
Moyne Shire Council Manager of Community Services, Jan Consedine, said the new prams were purchased primarily for safety reasons, but also enabled excursions away from the centre for the first time.
“We bought the two six-seater prams recently after identifying a need to get younger children and babies out of the building quickly in case of fire evacuation.
“Previously, we didn’t have the ability to take the younger kids on activities or excursions outside of the centre because taking 12 different prams would not be possible.”
The group of toddlers were taken to the library where a group of seven Moyneyana residents took turns reading them stories and joined in with singing songs.
“It’s great to be able to organise events where the kids have a fun morning and also bring smiles to the face of some of our older residents.”
