Buy Local Gift Card reaches new milestone

The Bathurst Buy Local Gift Card, an initiative of Bathurst Regional Council, New South Wales, which encourages people to shop locally, hit a new milestone in December with more than half a million dollars being loaded onto the cards.

Mayor, Bobby Bourke, said this was a great result for local businesses particularly given that the region is in a midst of a drought.

“The initiative means that $512,601 has been spent in our community bolstering the economy and supporting local businesses, as opposed to potentially being spent online or outside of our region.

“December 2019 proved to be the most successful month since the initiative was first implemented by Council in 2015. More than 700 cards were purchased with $45,370 loaded in a single month.”

The Buy Local Gift Card Campaign is proudly supported by the Bathurst Business Chamber and cards can be redeemed at 129 local shops.

Bathurst Business Chamber President, Catherine Fitzsimons, said, “It is really important that we support our local businesses, particularly during these dry times the region is currently experiencing.

“We hope that the success the program has achieved over the last few months continues well into 2020.”
