Vulnerable young residents in the City of Swan, Western Australia, will receive much needed supplies thanks to a generous personal donation by City employee Corrie Oliver.
Ms Oliver donated $1000 worth of grocery vouchers to Swan City Youth Service, a Midland-based charity offering support and emergency relief to at risk young people.
Ms Oliver won the grocery vouchers at random after using the Trolley Tracker app as part of the initiative to report abandoned trolleys in the local community.
“As a resident of Swan, I often report trolleys that I spot in the streets in my personal time and I was very lucky to be randomly selected as winner.
“But after I won, my family and I realised there are many people who need these vouchers more than we do especially in these tough times.
“The Swan City Youth Service do wonderful work and I’m proud to donate something that can help them continue to support our community.”
The vouchers were welcomed by Swan City Youth Service and will be used to provide care and welfare packages to those sleeping rough.
City of Swan Chief Executive Officer, Mike Foley, said Ms Oliver had demonstrated wonderful community spirit.
“In these unprecedented times, kindness certainly goes a long way and it’s heart warming to see members of our community doing whatever they can to support each other.
“It takes a special person to make a significant donation out of their own pocket, and as both a resident and employee of the City, Corrie’s kind act has made us very proud.”
The City of Swan encourages residents to report abandoned shopping trolleys through the Trolley Tracker app, online through the City’s website or by phoning the City direct.
Since February this year, the City has collected and reported more than 900 abandoned shopping trolleys in the Midland area as a part of the shopping trolley collection trial.
