Local business contributes to improving roads

Heavy machinery and road workers are a welcome sight in Moyne Shire, Victoria, as Council’s road upgrade project gets underway to resurface and seal the 850m long Waters Road.

Mayor, Daniel Meade, said, “Council understands the importance of road safety in the Shire which is why it is investing in these projects that have been identified as being important to all our road users.”

Local earthworks business, Earth and Water Technologies, has generously donated plant and labour for the upgrade of Waters Lane, with materials and sealing costs met by Council.

Tim Clingan from Earth and Water Technologies explained that part of his motivation to contribute an estimated $120,000 worth of work to this project stems from a personal desire to ‘give back’ to his community.

“As a Mortlake resident, local road user and business owner, I saw an opportunity to contribute towards a project that will benefit the
wider community.”

Tim has a particular interest in the Waters Lane upgrade, after his son was injured in a traffic accident.

“There are a number of ways that we as a community can help provide a better, safer environment for our families.

“This project is just one of the ways that I can help improve road safety for local residents and landholders.”

The mayor said this road project highlighted a great partnership with a local contractor who had made a significant contribution to improving the infrastructure of local roads.

“Whilst COVID-19 has impacted our region in several different ways, it is now more important than ever that we work together to drive economic growth, support local businesses and build a
stronger, safer community.”
