City of Darwin’s $3.7 million Daly Street beautification project has been completed, on time and on budget, with the project led and delivered by City of Darwin staff.
Lord Mayor, Kon Vatskalis said he was delighted the project was complete.
“This is a legacy project for Council that has transformed a major road into a stunning entrance that befits our tropical city.
“I’m incredibly proud of the hard work our staff, supported by the Green Army, have done to complete this major project.
“Even the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have failed to deter the positive spirit of our staff.
“They have shown incredible focus and dedication to complete this project on time, despite the constraints imposed.”
“The finished product is a vast improvement on what commuters have had to look at for more than 20 years.
“After just one wet season the trees and shrubs that have been planted on Daly Street will really start to develop, providing commuters with a wonderful aesthetic.”
Great care has gone into choosing trees and shrubs for the site that will thrive in this location, as well as provide colour, greenery and shade.
In keeping with an ongoing commitment to beautification and tree planting, City of Darwin has committed a further $3.8 million toward these projects across the municipality throughout 2020/21.
“My focus continues to be on beautifying our city, we all want to live in a beautiful city and it is our job at Council
to deliver just that.”
