Keeping the city green

City of Armadale’s parks team are protecting and growing the city’s urban forest.

Armadale is one of the fastest growing areas in Perth, Western Australia, and with this rapid urban expansion comes a loss of canopy and a greater need to plant and maintain trees, creating what is commonly known as an urban forest.

Now in its sixth year the City’s Urban Forest Strategy is aimed at protecting its most valued resource – which is trees!

The strategy guides the establishment and ongoing maintenance of planting additional trees, with over 6500 trees already planted in parks, reserves and streetscapes the parks crew have recently added another 600 trees throughout the City.

The City’s vision is to strengthen its diverse landscape through allocating suitable tree diversity, while showcasing the botanic heritage and distinguishing an expanding tree change destination from the existing Perth vernacular.

An online tree inventory system is currently being trialled and will assist the parks team in efficiently locating, documenting and managing the City’s growing tree
asset-base.
