Maranoa Regional Council, Queensland, has completed 11 stock route water facility upgrades, within budget and timeframe parameters.
Mayor, Tyson Golder said the stock routes were an important asset as they support not only Maranoa but travelling stock from all over Australia.
“I would like to thank the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy for their funding on the new stock route water facility upgrades.
“Council is always keen to improve facilities on stock routes and this is an example of this in action.”
The upgrades cost a total of $189,000 and were fully funded by Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy.
The Department also funded the construction of two new facilities at Teelba and Begonia, sourcing water from the newly constructed Council bores that form part of the Watering the Maranoa project.
Repairs were undertaken on a further four water facilities that suffered flood damage caused by the February rainfall event.
Stock route network water facilities are state owned assets with funding from the State Government for upgrades, however the facilities’ management and associated works are the responsibility of local government.
