Busy rural road gets safety upgrade

Mayor of the Dubbo Region, Ben Shields has welcomed $2.368 million from the Australian and New South Wales governments to upgrade the Old Dubbo Road.

The funding would allow Council to widen shoulders on a section of the road from the Hennessey Road intersection, upgrade the Angle Road intersection, make clear zone improvements, perform line marking and culvert replacements on this important and heavily used section of road.

“The Old Dubbo Road gets a lot of traffic and it is definitely one of the roads that people raise with me the most as needing an upgrade.

“This funding will allow Council to make improvements to a significant section of the road, making the road safer and better for local residents.

“Dubbo Regional Council is focused on ensuring our roads are up to a high standard, which is why our staff are always looking at the funding opportunities available to capitalise.

“I would like to thank the Australian and New South Wales Governments and particularly our local Members, Mark Coulton and Dugald Saunders for seeing the value of this project to include it in the Safer Roads Program.”

Even with all the uncertainty and disruption of 2020, Council was able to finish important capital works projects and ensure more were in the pipeline for 2021, the Mayor said.

“Work continues on extending Boundary Road to Sheraton Road and that will be completed next year, traffic lights are being installed on Windsor Parade to assist the residents of Orana Gardens and the Village Street Sealing Program continues to benefit our local villages.”
