Early water education

Mayor Bourke joins children from a Bathurst childcare centre as they learn the first steps of water conservation.

Bathurst Regional Council, New South Wales, has created an educational program to deliver water conservation and water use lessons to preschool aged children across the region.

The free program is designed to be used by early learning educators in a range of settings including day care centres and family day care.

Mayor, Bobby Bourke said the program linked to the Early Years Learning Framework and included videos, activities, and other online resources and was created in collaboration with early learning educators, artists, and other key stakeholders.

“Each module is broken into key learning elements and uses fun activities, guided discussions, an array of activity sheets, support resources and videos to engage children in the learning.”

Topics include:

  1. the water cycle
  2. how do we use water?
  3. water in Bathurst
  4. being conservative with water, and
  5. keeping our waterways clean and healthy

“The program continues Council’s commitment to providing information and education to the community on the importance of water conservation and preserving this precious resource.”
