Storyboards share town’s history

Storyboards depicting the history of the St James area have been erected in front of the popular silo art installation in this small but vibrant township thanks to a $5,000 grant from Moira Shire Council, Victoria.

Mayor, Libro Mustica said, “Our Community Strengthening Grants aim to provide community organisations like the St James Silo Art Committee with an opportunity to apply for funding.

“It is a great way to kick start a community initiative and is a vital function of Council.

“This funding stream helps to facilitate projects which enrich the whole community and can assist in the development of service, management of facilities, coordination of sport, art or music events and promotion of tourism, environmental sustainability and health in the community.

“I am thrilled at the positive result for the St James Silo Art Committee – this is a great asset for the whole community.”

Secretary of the St James Silo Art Committee Kathy Beattie said she was so proud to see this project completed.

“I love this community and I love history.

“Feedback we received regarding other silo art was that the history behind the artwork was missing, so we decided to erect these information boards outlining the stories of our town, and the reasons behind the images chosen to be painted on our silos.”

She said the silo art had really brought back life to St James.
“A big thank you to Stick Em On Signs and Katamatite Engineering for completing the project, as well as GrainCorp, Coles, our local community and of course Moira Shire Council for funding it.”
