Waterwise work milestone

City of Melville has been presented with a sustainable park bench, designed and made in Western Australia, to commemorate 10 years of participation in the State’s Waterwise Council Program.

Mayor, the Hon. George Gear JP said the bench highlighted the City’s commitment to water efficiency and conservation, which would continue in 2021 and into the future.

“A sustainable future is a key element to our vision and we have committed 2021 to be the year of Smart and Sustainable Communities.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to being a Waterwise Council, we audit our top water-using sites and ensure our relevant staff undertake Waterwise training.

“We also continue to report on water efficiency targets and performance in our Annual Reports.”

Council encourages the community to get involved and become more waterwise, including participation in the City’s annual Native Plant Giveaway taking place in May.

“We also offer education programs for schools including Go Green, which is available all year, and Little Creatures in the Lake, which is available in Term 2 and 3.

“These programs focus on reducing our carbon footprint and water consumption to ensure local wetland health and biodiversity, respectively.”
