Having a voice in the community has become easier for people in the City of Gosnells, Western Australia, thanks to the introduction of online petitions, as part of the City’s enhanced approach to community consultation.
Mayor David Goode, said, “Previously, electors seeking to petition Council needed to print forms and then collect handwritten names and addresses.”
Elector petitions can now be created or signed via the City’s Your Say website, where the community can also provide feedback or find information on local projects.
Mayor Goode said the online platform provided a quick and easily accessible way for ratepayers or community groups to highlight issues on which they want Council action.
“This service gives people the power to have their voice heard and produce electronic petitions for Council consideration.
“We certainly encourage people to approach their elected members or the Council directly as their first step, however if people want to petition Council, electronic petitions provide a convenient framework directly suited to the twenty-first century.”
