New Ipswich children’s library and City of Ipswich administration building.

Ipswich City Council, Queensland, will open the doors to its new dedicated children’s library and City administration building, known as 1 Nicholas Street, in the Nicholas Street Precinct on Monday 28 June.

It will be the first opportunity for Ipswich residents to explore Australia’s only public Children’s Library which boasts a purpose-designed and built space for children aged 0 – 12 years.

Number 1 Nicholas Street, will also house Ipswich City’s elected representatives and more than 750 public servants.

Mayor, Teresa Harding said the opening would be an historic day for the City of Ipswich.

“The $246 million Ipswich Central redevelopment is our commitment to bringing jobs and attractions back to the city centre.

“The Ipswich Children’s Library and 1 Nicholas Street form the centrepiece alongside our city’s beautiful civic plaza, Tulmur Place.

“Our growing community needs world-class facilities for work, education and leisure.”

Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee chair, Councillor Marnie Doyle said Council was excited to share the two new spaces with the Ipswich community.

“There is so much that the Ipswich community can look forward to with the opening of 1 Nicholas Street and the Ipswich Children’s Library including an improved customer service experience and an exciting new space for our city’s youngest residents to explore, learn and play.

“We can’t wait to share these new spaces with Ipswich residents and celebrate what we have achieved together as a community.”
