The value of authentic engagement*

The value of authentic community and stakeholder engagement is now more important than ever.

Factors such as the erosion of trust in institutions and organisations, the increase in the use of social media and interest in global issues means communities and stakeholders now expect meaningful engagement (public or civic participation) in decisions that affect them.

The International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) is the peak body for community engagement in Australasia. Better engagement means better outcomes for Council and your community.

IAP2 supports local government to enhance organisational branding and build trust through a suite of training courses, resources, tools and templates. Many councils have been recognised for excellence in the IAP2 Core Values Awards, and connect through informative network events, conferences and training.

IAP2 delivers customised training in-house to local government councillors and staff, or many attend courses individually through our public training program delivered across Australia. In fact, the IAP2 Australasia Certificate in Engagement is recognised by local government agencies as the pre-requisite training for engagement professionals.

IAP2 has you covered for a variety of courses:

  • Engagement Essentials
  • Engagement Design
  • Engagement Methods
  • Conflict in Engagement
  • Engaging with Influence
  • Engagement Facilitation
  • Engagement Evaluation
  • Strategies for Complex Engagement
  • Building an Engaging Organisation and
  • Delivering Deliberative Engagement.

Most courses are available in our virtual classroom – IAP2 Learn – in addition to face-to-face delivery in-house.

IAP2 also recently held a series of webinars on Deliberative Engagement and changes to the Victorian Local Government Act (2020), freely available on our website iap2.org.au.
