Residents are invited to nominate the special places, buildings and features they consider are important to the character, identity, and story of Noosa Shire.
“We know from feedback from our Liveability and Customer Satisfaction Surveys that our community places high importance on heritage and character,” Mayor Clare Stewart said.
“We’d love to hear, in detail, what people value.
“Whether it’s a special place, a street, a unique building or structure, or even a view, residents and visitors can share their thoughts either online, through a survey, or in person at a series of community events.
“The aim is to discover places across the shire, from the coast to the mountains, that are important in telling the story of the Noosa region over time,” heritage coordinator, Jane Harding, added.
“Our community’s input will help us recognise, celebrate, and conserve, the special places and features we want to hold on to for future generations.
“It’s no secret that Noosa is world-renowned for its natural beauty, environmental values and iconic natural features. But it also has a rich history. Our urban, built environment, and heritage and character places play an important role in shaping our identity and this review will help us recognise, share and conserve those places.
“Whether it’s the places that played host to unique local stories, have historical significance, or are linked to those who have lived and worked in the region, or have a special and unique attachment to the local community, all input is welcome.
“Even more recent buildings can quickly gain a deep connection to place. Hence there is no age limit on what we consider our heritage,” Ms Harding said.
The feedback received during the consultation, which runs until the end of March, will help council ensure Noosa’s heritage and character remain an integral part of its local identity and landscape.
