Queensland councils have until 31 March to apply for Round two of the State Government’s Secure Communities Partnership Program, which offers up to $400,000 per project for CCTV, lighting and public-space security upgrades.
Sunshine Coast-based security manufacturer Land Watch Australia is encouraging eligible LGAs to assess priority safety infrastructure projects now, particularly those involving remote or unmanned public facilities where traditional grid-connected systems are not viable.
Land Watch Founder John Hill says many regional councils manage geographically dispersed assets such as depots, recreation areas and waste facilities that are difficult to monitor but increasingly exposed to vandalism and antisocial behaviour. In fact, the Land Watch team was recently engaged to deliver a custom solution for Nilpena Ediacara National Park in SA, with the cameras now monitoring numberplate entry and inside the cave itself, protecting priceless fossils.
The Secure Communities program requires measurable crime-deterrence outcomes, demonstrated project need and a minimum 50 per cent local procurement commitment.
