Records protection

The NSW State Records Act states that all Government agencies are responsible for the ‘safe custody and proper preservation of the State records’ under their control. A crucial factor in the protection and care of records is the implementation of a counter disaster or contingency plan. Contingency management ensures business continuity and helps you maintain a competitive advantage.

The impact on your collection, your staff and your clients is greatly reduced. Ask yourself, in the event of a disaster, will you know what to do?

  • How long will your essential records be ‘out of action’?
  • How quickly can your day to day business activities be back, up and running?
  • How do you prevent loss of public confidence/loss of staff morale?
  • Where would you start?

Conservation Access, a commercial service of the State Library of NSW can help. Contact us in a disaster emergency, after hours on 0411 252 954. We assist in the recovery of water damaged books, files, photographs and artwork for various Councils, government departments, private and business clients.

Conservation Access facilitates the compilation of counter disaster plans and offers training in disaster management and recovery. Our two day VETAB accredited workshop, De-dramatising Disasters, introduces the methods and skills to prevent a disaster destroying your valuable collection or archive.

Participants step through the process of setting up a plan for their own organisation and become versed in risk management, disaster preparedness and disaster response.

Each workshop, applicable to any managers of office records, archives, or library materials, includes the recovery of a simulated disaster.
