New structure for Federal Department

The Federal Department of Transport and Regional Services has new organisational arrangements, effective from 1 January 2002.

The new structure is built around three following broad groups.

  • Transport
  • Regional Development
  • Corporate Governance

The National Office of Local Government is now part of the Regional Development Group in the Territories and Local Government Division.

The new Assistant Secretary with responsibility for Local Government is Maureen Ellis.

“The restructure and the establishment of the Division as part of the Regional Development Group is a very important step forward for us,” said Mike Mrdak, First Assistant Secretary for the new Territories and Local Government Division on welcoming the Office. The National Office of Local Government team sits very well with the governance and Territory programmes we already have responsibility for and will fit particularly well with the flood and natural disaster programmes we administer which already have close linkages to Local Government interests.”

Contact details for the National Office of Local Government remain the same, although the logo has changed (see below). For more information about the programmes operated by the Department of Transport and Regional Services, refer to the Department’s website at www.dotars.gov.au
