The Centre for Pavement Engineering Education (CPEE) provides value added higher education programs for the pavement industry. By facilitating the transfer of information between academic institutions, road authorities, private companies, research organisations and others involved in the pavement industry, CPEE ensures its graduates possess the high level of practical knowledge and skills demanded by the industry.
Operating as a partnership between AUSTROADS and the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA), CPEE offers two tertiary pavements engineering courses, a Master of Technology and a Master of Engineering, in conjunction with Deakin University. CPEE also offers a number of short courses each year, using the same notes as those used for the tertiary distance learning programs, and involving a team of presenters representing different areas of the pavement industry. AAPA’s Pavements Training and Advisory Centre also provides technical education and training for the road building industry. The Centre meets an increasing national demand from road authorities and industry members for both standard and customised courses in all aspects of asphalt work, sprayed sealing and pavement maintenance. AAPA’s Certificate IV in Road Works Management offers a nationally recognised and accredited qualification in either Sprayed Sealing and Maintenance, or Asphalt and Maintenance.
This qualification is an opportunity for all supervisors and aspiring supervisors to gain a qualification based on a combination of existing practical experience and attendance at a number of agreed AAPA training courses. AAPA is also endorsed by Construction Training Australia (CTA) to develop industry skills based training modules for accreditation to the national Australian Qualification Framework Level 3 (AQF3).
