The design of Geraldton’s main tourist map has been radically revamped and updated to highlight the area’s best tourist attractions. The new tourist map and visitors’ guide is an initiative of the Geraldton Visitor Centre in association with the City of Geraldton, which contributed $5,000 towards production costs. The project also has the support of the Shire of Greenough.
The map details five self drive tours from Geraldton, taking in the area between Port Denison in the South and Kalbarri in the north, and inland to Tardun. Sights include Geraldton’s outstanding HMAS Sydney Memorial, Kalbarri National Park, and Mullewa’s magnificent Our Lady of Mount Carmel church.
More than 100,000 copies have been produced at a cost of $43,000.
Visitor Centre Chairman, Doug McCashney, said the old map looked tired and was in dire need of updating. The new one provides current information in a style that is both eye catching and easy to read.
City of Geraldton Executive Manager Technical Services, Geoff Shoemark, said his staff had worked closely with the Visitor Centre and publishers to supply the most up to date information available.
“The Visitor Centre should be congratulated in particular for initiating the new guide,” Geoff Shoemark said. “The intention is to review it in six months with the aim of updating and reprinting in 12 months.”
