Moonee Valley wins Management Challenge

Moonee Valley City Council, representing Victoria, has won the 1999 Australasian Active Learning Management Challenge. This year 82 teams and almost 500 Local Government managers participated in this highly regarded professional development exercise.

Regional finals were held in each State, the Northern Territory and New Zealand to select the eight finalists. These teams travelled to Canberra to compete for the Australasian title. A full day exercise was conducted on Sunday 16 May with the winner announced during the Institute of Municipal Management’s National Congress.

The other finalists included Wollongong (NSW); Bayswater (WA); Charles Sturt/West Torrens (SA); West Tamar (TAS); Gold Coast (QLD); Department of Local Government (NT); and Central Otago (NZ).

During a simulated exercise the teams, comprising five or six members, were assessed on their ability to complete set tasks while at the same time dealing with a number of unforeseen events.
