Wyndham’s quest for quality

Conveniently located midway between Melbourne and Greater Geelong, the City of Wyndham has, for a number of years, marketed itself as Melbourne’s best kept secret.

More than doubling its population over the last two decades, and predicted to double again to 165,000 people by 2021, Wyndham is positioning itself to be much more than a domiciliary suburb.

At the recent launch of ‘Wyndham; A Quest for Quality’, Mayor Frank Purcell OAM described the publication as a photographic representation of the community’s vision for Wyndham in 2015.

“People who work and live in Wyndham are proud of their achievements,” he said. “This vision for the future links all aspects: employment, industry and lifestyle.”

In officially launching the publication, Victorian Minister for Planning and Local Government, Robert Maclellan, said that Wyndham has shown it is a community that is focused.

He said that, working as a team, Council and the community are meeting the challenge of providing employment opportunities and quality housing.

“Its strategies and directions are building a strong foundation for the future,” the Minister said. “If Wyndham can do it why can’t we do it in the wider context?”

Wyndham’s quest for quality is bound around ‘achieving a balance of industrial, residential, infrastructure and environmental relevance, with a sense of history but also a strong commitment to planning for the future’.
