Local Government Network

A key aspect of the Resource Kit is the information on the Active Australia Local Government Network. Councils are being encouraged to join this network to show they have made a commitment to, and demonstrated a recognition of, the Active Australia vision and goals in their policies and practices.

To be eligible to join the network Councils must fulfil at least three of the following minimum criteria.

  • Make a public commitment to the Active Australia vision, goals and principles by incorporating these in Council policies.
  • Promote the Active Australia concept wherever possible through the policies and practices of Council.
  • Establish and develop partnerships with key agencies in implementing the Active Australia vision.
  • Provide support/assistance to community sporting and recreational organisations wanting to become better quality organisations.
  • Conduct education and training opportunities for community sporting and recreational organisations.
  • Reward and recognise community organisations that meet the Active Australia outcomes.

Councils joining the network receive the following.

  • Use of the Active Australia logo for specified purposes.
  • Access to resources that have been produced in support and promotion of Active Australia, such as Sport and Recreation in Local Government – a case study resource featuring over 150 case studies of Local Government; Active Australia newsletters; Activate magazines; and Local Government Sport and Recreation project newsletter.
  • Networking opportunities with other Active Australia Councils registered on the database.
  • Access to information from Active Australia pilot projects.
  • Up to date information about Active Australia and all related areas.
  • Special public recognition of your involvement in the network.
  • Association with an initiative that will be recognised throughout Australia.
  • The opportunity to nominate for Active Australia Awards.
